Are you
Promoting Holes or Drills?
I had an interesting
question posed to me last week by a
new member and I thought I would share it because so
many
folks wonder the same thing.
Margene asked, "Dev, I
started working online four months
ago and haven't made a dime, yet. What am I doing
wrong?"
I answered, "Margene,
Hi. It is good to hear from you. I
will do my best to give you a straightforward,
honest
answer and I will need you to answer a few questions to
be
able to do that, but first let me say, four months is
truly
not long in this business. It just feels that
way
sometimes, LOL, especially when we need the money
now.
Q. How, where and how
often are you advertising?
Q. Are you tracking
your ads? If not, you have a great
adtracker in the members area that comes as part of
your
membership with us. Use it and you will not only
save
yourself a lot of unnecessary frustration but also quite
a
bit of money as well.
Q. How are you
targeting your ads? What I mean by that is
if you send ads out to a general population vs the ones
who
are actually looking for what you have to offer,
that
probably won't be very effective for
you.
Or as Perry Marshall states, "Nobody who bought a
drill
actually wanted a drill. They wanted a hole. Therefore,
if
you want to sell drills, you should advertise
information
about making holes - NOT information about
drills!
Perry is among the
most trusted webmasters, AdWords
advisers available on the web today.
Q. Are you like
Kentucky Fried Chicken or more like a Bingo
Player trying to cover every space on the card? People
who
are more like Kentucky Fried Chicken understand you have
to
get really good at one thing to be exceptional at it.
So,
what does that mean here? It means a couple of
things.
1. Try to not have too
many irons in the fire, and...
2. Take the time to
fully understand the program or service
you have chosen. Know it upside down; inside out until
you
are an expert on what you are promoting. You will gain
a
lot of credibility and also peace of mind if you
do.
Q. Do you skip from
program to program to see what will
stick? When you decide to promote a program or service,
do
you give it time to see if it works? Sometimes we
tend
to want instant gratification right now and get out
too
soon.
Now, back to the
question: "Dev, I started working online
four months ago and haven't made a dime, yet. What am
I
doing wrong?"
A. I don't know, but I
will help you figure it out.
And on that note, I
waited for her response and now we are
working on a business plan for the new
year.
I hope you have great
week and remember, we are here if you need help.
Warm
regards,
Dev
